Rural electrification

Sir,
Refer news item ‘State Govt formulates plan for 100 percent rural electrification’ DE Dec 17,2013.
Rural electrification should have ben a priority with the State Government. But it has not received the much needed attention. Even after 66 years of independence  there are certain pocket in rural area which still use lanterns or wax candles during evenings. Many schemes were launched in this direction, but the objective could not be achieved for reasons best known to the authorities. There were certainly some technical or economic considerations: that implied that grid extension may not be feasible to all the unelectrifed villages. River crossing, hills, forests, sparse population also can be cited which obstructed electrification. To overcome these obstruction Central Government had formulated Remote Village Electrification Programme which aimed at providing basic lighting/electricity facilities using renewable energy technologies in those unelectrified remote villages. Since these schemes have not been implemented whole heartedly. The result is that people still live in darkness. The State Government should therefore do its best to get these villages electrified in the coming plan.
Yours etc…
