JAMMU, Mar 31: An ace exporter and entrepreneur and son of the soil Romesh Khajuria today took charge as the Chairman of the Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC), Ministry of Textile, Government of India at New Delhi.
An impressive function was organized by Committee of Administration (COA) of WWEPC, Government of India where Romesh Khajuria was appointed as Chairman of Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Khajuria who hails from Jammu’s village Rehal in Bishnah also deals with growth of the entrepreneur ecosystem and exports of Wool and Woollen blended based products.
Taking over charge of the posts, Khajuria complimented all members of the Council for their support.
Khajuria emphasized that J&K is the main cluster for manufacturing of premium ‘Pashmina Shawls, Stoles, Scarves, Mufflers’ and many more which have huge potential worldwide.
He said “We need to organize awareness programs in the region to make WWEPC popular and SMEs here can use Council’s services”.
He assured that the Council would work hard with support of members of the Committee for the development of woollen and hosiery industry to achieve new targets of export even in tough present critical situations.
“The Council is playing an important role in export promotion and it is a bridge between the Indian Woollen Industry and Government of India,” said Khajuria.
Romesh Khajuria, who also led the delegation of 71 Indian entrepreneurs to Milan, Italy during December 2021 hailed the role of Indian embassies/Indian High Commissions abroad for their support and contributions in achieving this milestone.
He further informed that exports increased by 37 per cent to USD 400 billion during April-March 22, 2021-22 against USD 292 billion in 2020-21.
For the first time ever, India’s merchandise exports have crossed USD 400 billion in a fiscal year. In 2018-19, the outbound shipments had touched a record of USD 330.07 billion.
