The Vice President expects that in next 10 – 15 years the women representatives in all the three tiers of governance will be more than 50 per cent. This is possible owing to several factors. Education up to the highest rung is open to them. Society treats them a par with men in all walks of life, and Government encourages development of women in all respects. These are welcome signs and the country will find a marked change in its social set up once woman are empowered to have a say in the destiny of this nation. Our women have gone through very depressing periods of history when their rights were denied and they were discriminated against. They were relegated to the four walls of the house and had little or no say in public affairs and the future of the nation. Things have changed and now the coming era is the era of women in this country. We have to accept this reality ungrudgingly.
