JAMMU, July 19: DDC Chairman Jammu, Bharat Bhushan Bodhi today said that providing road connectivity to rural and far flung areas of the Union Territory is the priority of the Central Government and for this many schemes are in place.
He was speaking during the inauguration of road construction projects at various places in Jammu. The DDC Chairman today launched four development projects in one go showcasing the intent of the government to provide better road connectivity in the region, especially the rural hamlets which require the same for speedy development.
Bodhi inaugurated the work on road stretch between Behra to Sabka via Mohalla Khajuria, Mohalla Lohara and Mohalla Bakarwala at the estimated cost of Rs 1.46 crore under NABARD. Thereafter, he inaugurated blacktopping of road from Gurha Singh Bridge to Marjali via Mohalla Capt Kashmir Singh under City and Town Plan. This road stretch shall be completed at the estimated cost of Rs 26.80 lakh.
Sarpanch Gurha Singha–Prem Singh, Sarpanch Sham Lal Sharma and former Sarpanch Dhanattar Singh accompanied the DDC Chairman.
Addressing a gathering the DDC Chairman said that effective road network is imperative for development of all other sectors. Government is committed to provide roads in rural areas. He said that besides roads, providing uninterrupted electricity and regular water supply, education and health care to the people is also the priority of the government.
The DDC Chairman also started blacktopping of road from Akhnoor to Shamshan Ghat Dumi at the estimated cost of Rs 18 lakh. Besides, he also started construction of road from Rajpura to Jhiri via Bhattian under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 2.7 crore. Bharat Bhushan was accompanied by the Chief Engineer PMGSY, Rajan Mengi.
On the complaint of poor work of a road in Jhiri area, CE Mengi declared the contract null and void and assured for fresh tender at the earliest. Consequent upon this, the DDC Chairman vowed to ensure that the aforesaid road stretch will soon become a reality and he will take care that all the bottlenecks get cleared without any inordinate delay.
Among others who were present include BDC Chairman Block Bhalwal Kuldeep Kumar; Mandal Pardhan Ashok Kerni, Gurnam Singh and Yash Pal Singh.
