This has reference to the news items ‘Gupta for extensive review of electoral rolls’ DE Dec 17.
The revision of electoral rolls as demanded by former Union Minister is need of the hour. The electroal rolls usually have printing errors which cause great embarrassment and confusion during election time.
Besides, it deprives the deleted person of exercising his right to vote-which is a constitutional right. It is requested to the Election Commission authorities to ensure error free electoral rolls. These rolls should be brought out in both English and Urdu or Hindi. In Jammu most of people do not Urdu, so it should be avoided.
Besides, the discrepencies existing with regard to number of voters in a particular segment be rectified as this could influence the verdict during elections.
It is once again requested that electoral be revised, updated and made correction free.
