JAMMU, Jan 30: Agitating against the Government order on conducting screening test of Rehbar-e-Talim teachers having degrees through distance mode, a large number of ReTs today held a strong protest demonstration in front of the Governor House, here today.
Shouting slogans against the `insulting’ order of School Education Department, some of the protesting ReTs even torched their degrees. They also tried to block the ever busy chowk near Radio Station but Police foiled their attempt.
A large number of ReTs took part in the protest, which was organized under the banner of All J&K Rehbar-e-Talim Teachers Forum, led by its president Vinod Sharma and supported by School Education Coordination Committee, headed Ganesh Khajuria and Narinder Singh Jamwal. The Forum members threatened to further intensify the stir in near future if screening test order is not revoked or modified and regularization process is not started at once.
While addressing the gathering, Vinod Sharma said that the Education Department has misinterpreted the High Court Srinagar wing judgment of May14,2015 in which degrees issued by Tuck shops and dubious universities were supposed to be verified and such class of RETs/Teachers was supposed to face the screening test. “But as per Government order number 631 Edu of 2015, dated 29-12-2015, all those Rehbar-e-Talim, who possess degree though distance mode of all the Universities, including Jammu University, Kashmir University, IGNOU, MANUU and any other UGC recognized universities, are asked to face the screening test thereby questioning the credibility of the distance mode degrees of such reputed varsities,” he explained.
On the one hand, the Govt is appointing various employees of distance mode degrees in all the departments and even deputing in service teachers for B Ed through Distance mode of IGNOU, while on the other hand RETs possessing the distance mode degrees of such universities are asked to face screening test which is a clearcut discrimination and harassment of RET cadre,” Vinod Sharma further said and appealed the Governor to personally intervene for necessary instructions to exempt the degrees holders of all the UGC recognized universities from the Screening Test.
