Retired Officers Forum resents proposed hike in power tariff

JAMMU, Oct 26: Retired Officers Forum called an emergent meeting under the chairmanship of I D Soni and strongly resented the proposal submitted by PDD for unwarranted tariff hike.
“Time and again the Forum in the meetings with the Advisors has pointed out the unwanted loot by some of the PDD officials because of which losses are occurring. The Deptt does not have any concrete policy for reduction of Transmission and Distribution losses but instead join hands with the consumers for pecuniary benefits,” the Forum opined.
The members alleged that the electricity is being misused by the consumers either by putting hooks with the connivance of the PDD officials or else in most of rural areas, PDD Line Men/Meter Readers go to the area, collect 300-500 rupees per house without any receipt and the electricity is being used for cooking/electronic gadgets.
Further pointing out that during the period of 8-10 years, 6-8 times the electricity meters have been changed with no positive effect, the Forum alleged that the authorities seem to be more interested in purchase and installation of new meters than having some concrete policy /planning as to how to check the T/D losses.
The Forum suggested that the solution to check this menace will be to impose heavy penalties to both the Linemen/Meter readers and the consumers whenever there is a complaint and the same is found correct. “The irony of the fate is that whenever certain NGOs or responsible consumers complain to the X-En/AEE through Mobile or Land Line, the said officers tell the defaulters the number of complaint phone which creates enmity between the informer and the defaulter.
