JAMMU, May 7: The Jammuites will have respite from tomorrow onwards as Municipal employees suspended their strike after the written assurance by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities.
Municipal employees led by Rinku Gill, President Civic Safai Karamchari Union (CSKU), Ranjit Singh, President, Drivers and Cleaners Union and Rohit George, President, Clerical Union of JMC held a meeting with JMC Commissioner Mandeep Kaur, wherein she gave written assurance to the protesting employees that their demands will be redressed at the earliest.
To the demand of re-organization of the JMC, the authorities stated that the matter is already with Administrative Department and will be followed for earliest accord of sanction, whereas for scrapping of NGO system and regularization of contractual drivers, the authorities said that the issues will be redressed hopefully within two months.
To the demands of issuance of DPC promotion orders of Municipal employees of various cadres, the JMC authorities added the orders of promotion will be accorded as and when approval is conveyed by the Administrative Department, whileas to the demand of deployment of Municipal employees in wards instead of parking places, JMC authorities stated that the deployment will be reviewed within 15 days.
After the written assurance, the protesting Municipal employees suspended their strike and later celebrated the victory.
While talking to Excelsior Rinku Gill, President, CSKU said that JMC has given written assurance to their demands and hoped that this time the authorities will redress the issues aggressively. He added that the Municipal employees will resume their duties from tomorrow.
