Resolutions passed in JMC House long back yet to see light of the day

JAMMU, Sept 8: Resolutions passed by the general house of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in its meetings more than a year back have exposed the lackadaisical attitude of those at the helm as even after this long delay many developmental works have failed even to take off while the declaration of holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of J&K, also suffered the same fate as there was a resolution regarding that too.
Cutting across the party lines, the JMC Councillors expressed resentment as after a long wait their resolutions are yet to see even start of the works on ground.
“Last year I got a resolution demanding holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji passed in general house meeting of JMC,” BJP’s Narotam Sharma, JMC Councillor of Ward 3 (Mastgarh area) said adding that another such resolutions by him seeking renaming Jammu Airport after Maharaja Hari Singh and rechristening University of Jammu after Maharaja Gulab Singh were also passed but no effort in this regard has been initiated as of now.
He also said that yet another resolution by him demanding conferring ownership rights of custodian properties to their occupants was also passed in the general house but it also faced the same fate.
Independent Councillor Inder Singh Sudan of Ward 44 (Nanak Nagar) said his resolution demanding installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk was passed by the general house of JMC after which JMC Commissioner had issued order on that but still the work on it has not been started till date.
Another BJP Councillor of Ward 12 (Krishna Nagar), Jeet Angral, also former Chairman of Social Justice Standing Committee said his resolution demanding road from Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Canal Road to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, Krishna Nagar though passed has not yet seen the light of the day.
He also said that another resolution by him demanding a JMC fund to be used by Councillors for helping poor and needy people of their Wards has been passed but no headway has been seen on that.
BJP Councillor, Parmod Kapahi of Ward 14 (Bhagwati Nagar) said, his resolution demanding naming of Chowk at fourth Tawi Bridge in Bhagwati Nagar as Baba Amarnath Barfani Chowk is yet to see idol installation of Lord Shiva at that place.
He further said that his another resolution demanding parking places including paid one in his Ward has also not been worked out and similar remained the status of his one more resolution regarding erecting gates at the entrance of all JMC Wards.
Congress Councillor, Gorav Chopra of Ward 28 (Bakshi Nagar) informed that his resolution demanding divider on road from Mahesh Pura Chowk to Shakti Nagar Canal Chowk with good quality lights was passed two years back by the general house of JMC but no work on that has been started till date.
Independent Councillor, Sucha Singh of Ward 31 said his resolution regarding putting stickers at shops in Jammu to stop use of poly-carry bags is nowhere implemented though it was passed long back.
When contacted JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta said that Union Government has to declare holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
“On part of JMC we sent two reminders to the concerned authorities, after a resolution in this regard was passed, but there is no response from their side,” he informed.
On change of names of University of Jammu and Jammu Air Port, the Mayor said that JMC has written to the concerned authorities for that.
On installation of idols of Lord Shiva at Baba Amarnath Chowk in Bhagwati Nagar, he said that it was delayed due to lack of funds and same was the reason for delay in installing lights and divider on road from Mahesh Pura Chowk to the Chowk at canal near Shakti Nagar.
On road from GGHSS Canal Road to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Krishna Nagar, he said that the matter is with School Education Department and their permission is awaited to start the work.
On installation of statue of legendary warrior of Sikh era, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk, the Mayor said that JMC can’t do that on National Highway but it can be done by the Union Government.
Gupta also informed that soon the statue of Mehar Chand Mahajan and that of Raja Jambhu Lochan will be installed in the city.
“About 26 rotaries of the city are being made on smart city pattern and two Ghats are being made at Har Ki Poudi on bank of river Tawi for Arti and Asthi Visarjan,” the Mayor maintained adding that big lights are being installed in the City with 8-12 bulbs.
“Apart from all this, tenders for artificial lake will be floated soon and Rs. 150 crore from Smart City fund has been earmarked for work on Tawi River Front project wherein beautification on both banks of the river will be done from Bhagwati Nagar to Bikram Chowk,” Gupta said.
He further said that Bagh-e-Bahu Park will further be extended and a fountain worth Rs. 11 crore where colourful water will be thrown upwards to 100 foot will be installed there.
