Residents seek repair of transformer

Srinagar, Dec 24: Scores of aggrieved residents of Hayan village of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today blocked the Srinagar-Leh Highway against the non-repairing of power transformers.
Chanting slogans against Power Development Department (PDD), the protesters placed the damaged transformer on road and blocked the vehicular movement. The protesters were demanding repair of the transformer and restoration of the power supply.
They said the 63KV transformer installed in their area often develops snag due its low capacity. “Despite our repeated pleas, the PDD has ignored our demand of installing high capacity transformer. So, taking to streets is our last resort as we want our voice should be heard,” they added.
As the blockade of the Highway continued, the senior police and PDD officials rushed to spot and assured the protesters of quick redressel of their problem. Later the protesters dispersed and the road was made thorough for the vehicular movement.
