MENDHAR, Nov 30: The residents of Ward Numbers 1 and 2 viz their surrounding areas held protest against Jal Shakti Department here today.
Carrying empty utensils, a large number of residents including women and children assembled at main town here and held protest against Jal Shakti Department for irregular water supply.

They also raised the slogans demanding regular supply of drinking water in their areas. They also blocked the Mendhar to J&K Bank chowk road.
While talking to the Excelsior, locals of Mendhar town namely Davinder Kumar Tandon, Vikas Bhasin, Ashok Kumar, Amrit Bakshi, Kamal Kapoor and Bharat Bhushan Bhasin alleged that the employees of the PHE Department posted in their area are not repairing the water supply lift scheme  motor, which got damaged around 20 days back, thereby affecting water supply to Ward Numbers 1, 2 and others surrounding area.
They said that the daily wagers and casual workers engaged by the Jal Shakti Department Sub Division Mendhar are not performing their duties due to people are facing immense hardships.
They appealed to the District Administration Poonch to direct the concerned Jal Shakti Department engineers for ensuring regular water supply to the aforesaid affected areas.
With a warning to intensify their protest if water supply is not restored in their areas immediately, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the road.
When contacted SDM Mendhar Dr Sahil Jandyal to the Excelsior that he has taken up the issue with AEE of Jal Shakti Department who informed that water supply has been affected due to some technical fault. “A tanker has been sent by Jal Shakti Department to the affected areas, so that people face no issue”, SDM said and appealed to the people to use water supplied through water tanker judiciously till regular water supply is resumed.
