Red Cross organizes symposium on World Blood Donors’ Day

JAMMU, June 11: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Karl Landsteinor, the founder of “ABO” Blood Grouping system and Nobel Prize Winner, Red Cross and Blood Transfusion Department, Jammu today organized a symposium on World Blood Donors’ Day, 2014 at Red Cross Auditorium, Red Cross Bhawan, here at Kachi Chawni.
The theme of the symposium was “Safe Blood for Saving Mothers”.
Arunima Sinha, secretary, IAS Officers’ Wives Welfare Association, Jammu was the chief guest, who appealed the youth to come forward and join hands with the Red Cross to strengthen the movement of voluntary blood donation and ensure the availability of blood in the Blood Bank.
RC Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu, in his welcome address suggested that Blood Bank should organize motivational programme at the Higher Secondary School level so that the student community could be inspired to donate blood from the age of 18.
Dr Meena Sidhu, Incharge, Blood Bank, SMGS Hospital, Jammu and Dr Kamaljeet Singh, (Retd) Prof, Blood Transfusion Department, GMC, Jammu were judges in the symposium. They also threw some important aspects regarding donation of blood to the participants to save precious lives.
The Students from Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, SPMR College of Commerce, MIER College and GGM Science College participated in the symposium.
Rajat Puri from Criest School, Poonch and Simranjeet Kour from Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) were adjudged 1st and 2nd respectively whereas Suyash Raj Shivam from Doon School and Sudershan Singh from GGM Science College, Jammu shared 3rd position in the symposium.
