JAMMU, May 24: Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather today reviewed the functioning of the Commercial Taxes Department Jammu Division.
While reviewing the achievements of the department, the Finance Minister gave specific instructions to the officers for ensuring transparent and trader friendly system and providing conducive environment to the honest traders. He further instructed that the tax payers/dealers should be provided all necessary help and guidance while dealing with various technical issues and other tax matters.
The Finance Minister said that Commercial Taxes Department is a backbone of the State’s economy and called upon the officers to put their best efforts to maximize the tax accruals. He said that any leakage at any level should be plugged to yield better revenue results.
The Finance Minister was informed that the Commercial Taxes Department has realized revenue of Rs. 3405.66 crore in Jammu Division during the year 2013-14 as against the achievement of Rs.3070.47 crore during the year 2012-13. The Finance Minister was further informed that the department has achieved one more milestone in computerizing the functioning of the department and with this during 4th quarter of 2013-14 the department has received 3631 returns electronically. Apart from e-filing of the returns, the department is contemplating to roll out e-filing of VAT 65 and other modules with the purpose to facilitate the dealers to minimize interface with the departmental functionaries.
The Finance Minister keenly reviewed the functioning and performance of each wing and circle. While appreciating the achievements of the department, the Finance Minister hoped that functionaries of the department will carry forward present tempo of revenue realization. He assured the functionaries of the department that their issues pertaining the administrative matters will be taken care of and major steps with regard to reorganization of the department to strengthen its overall functioning will be taken to provide better service to various stakeholders.
The Commissioner Commercial Taxes Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, assured the Finance Minister that strenuous efforts will be made to improve the functioning of the department. The Commissioner Commercial Taxes said that the department has enormously benefited from the wisdom and leadership of Finance Minister.
Anu Malhotra, Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (Adm.) Jammu gave a detailed presentation on the achievements of the department in Jammu Division.
The meeting was attended by Showkat Aijaz, Director, Finance, Finance Department, Dy. Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Checkpost Lakhanpur, Dy. Commissioner Commercial Taxes (Appeals), Jammu, Dy. Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (V&I) Jammu and Deputy Commissioner of Stamps, Jammu and other senior officers of the department.
