UDHAMPUR, July 8: Due to unprecedented delay in clearing the landslide, the Ramnagar-Basantgarh-Dudu road is still lying closed for the last 10 days. The road was closed due to a landslide on June 28 near Gandhtop in Basantgarh Sub Division.
Meanwhile, locals held a strong protest against delay in clearing the road for vehicular movement. The villagers raised slogans against the PMGSY Department and appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and District Administration Udhampur for their personal intervention to get the PMGSY road cleared.
The villagers said that it was very difficult for sick people and pregnant women to travel to Ramnagar and Udhampur because of extremely poor road connectivity. Further, they added, due to closure of the road, shopkeepers are not able to bring the goods with the result poor people are facing lot of difficulties while the Government employees are also not able to reach the offices on time.
The protest was held under the supervision of DDC Ashri Devi, Sarpanch Sher Singh, Sarpanch Sagar Chand, Yash Paul, Pawan Rassal, Vikram Singh, Reva Devi, Kishori Lal and Jagdish Chander.
DDC Ashri Devi said that the people were suffering for the last 10 days as this road connects many villages, including Dudu, Jakhed, RaiChak, Kadwa, Shivgali, Khaned, Ponara, Basantgarh, Upperla Balota, Majouri, Gandhtop and Latti etc.
