SAMBA, July 15: Irate residents and traders of Ramgarh held a demonstration, downed shutters of their business establishments for the day and blocked road for half an hour in protest against the power crisis in the area.
The demonstration was led by PDP leader Yashpaul Sharma and Beopar Mandal president Ramgarh.
The protesters took out a process in from Ramgarh Chowk to PDD Office and raised slogans against the department for power failure in the area.
The Ramgarh township observed a total bandh for the day in protest against the callousness of the PDD authorities. They accused the PDD of not supplying the power more than two hours a day to the people.
They said even the transformer has not been installed in the area despite repeated pleas of the people. They warned to observe complete bandh on July 31 and resort to agitation in case the problem was not solved by that day.
Meanwhile, expressing concern against the power cuts former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to issue directives to PDD to provide adequate electricity supply to the border area.
In a statement issued here today, he said the people of the border villages and other areas of Vijaypur have been experiencing power crisis and demanded proper supply of electricity to the people during the paddy season.
