Rain causes waterlogging in Pahalgam

SRINAGAR, Sept 1: Rainfall caused waterlogging on several roads in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir, today, while the Lidder River remained in spate due to increased water flow.

Water accumulated on the main roads in parts of the tourist spot, affecting traffic movement and causing inconvenience to commuters and visitors. The swollen Lidder River also prompted monitoring of water levels and local conditions

The rainfall also affected several other parts of the Union Territory. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said rainfall activity is expected to decrease from Wednesday.

The weather office said generally dry weather is likely across Jammu and Kashmir from Sept. 2 to 10, although isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers may occur during the period.

It cautioned that intense showers at vulnerable locations could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides.

The forecast indicates a reduction in rainfall activity across Jammu and Kashmir from Wednesday, with generally dry conditions expected over the coming days.
