JAMMU, Jan 22: Pradesh Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and NSUI activists today held a protest demonstration demanding resignation of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani for her role in the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident of suicide of a Dalit scholar of Hyderabad University, Rohith Vemula.
The Congress activists assisted by Student wing of the party assembled at Shahidi Chowk, near PCC office at around 12 noon and started protest demonstration. They were protesting against the role of Union HRD Minister Mrs Irani and Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya for their alleged role in the matter.
The protest was led by Pranav Shagotra, president PYC along with Indu Pawar, president Pradesh Mahila Congress and Neeraj Kundan- president NSUI.
The activist of PYC/ Mahila Congress and NSUI were shouting slogans against Modi Govt and HRD Minister. They also burnt the effigy of Smriti Irani amidst chanting of slogans “Smriti Irani Hai Hai, “Smriti Irani Esteefa Do”, “Narinder Modi Hai Hai” and “BJP Hai Hai”.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Shagotra criticized HRD Minister and Union Minister for Labour for their alleged role in the matter leading to suicide of a Dalit scholar of Hyderabad University. He said that the Union HRD Minister has misrepresent the facts in order to mislead the nation over the issue which is evident by the exposure by the team of Professors who have reportedly tendered their resignations from their administrative posts, protesting over the ‘fabricated’ statements of Mrs Irani.
Indu Pawar, Pradesh Mahila Congress president and Neeraj Kundan (NSUI) also addressed the protesters. After holding protest for some time they dispersed.
Prominent among together who participated in protest included Satish Sharma, Rajveer Singh, Balbir Singh, Rajan Sharma, Chetan Wanchoo, Sandeep Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Ricky Dalotra, Hoshiyar Singh Chib, Anoop Gupta, Arun Singh; Mahila Cong- Santosh Sharma, Prabha Slathia, Sushma Choudhary, Sunita Rajput, Geeta Dogra, Suman Choudhary, Sita Devi, Reena, Bunita Slathia, NSUI- Nasseb Choudhary, Rohit Attra, Aftab Keen, Kamal Magotra Nasib Ali, Nitin Bakshi, Showkat Ahmed, Chetan Kundal, Sharaz Ahmed and Mumtaz Kohli.
