SAMBA, Nov 2: Casual labourers and Need Based Employees of Public Works Department (PWD) here staged a protest demonstration demanding regularisation of their services at Nandni Hill Samba, the district headquarters.
The protest was led by Arun Singh, president Samba PWD casual labour/Need Based Union. The protester swith banners and pla- cards in their hands raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Addressing the protesters, Samba president of the Union, Arun Singh said that justice was not being done to these employees posted in the Department. Their salary has not been released for months. “We are forced to take to streets. Other officers including the Chief Engineer have also been apprised. Despite this, no steps are being taken to solve the issue. These personnel posted in the Department are finding it difficult to run family”.
Singh said the then BJP-PDP Government had issued a SRO 520 on 21 December 2017 for the regularization of all casual labourers working in different departments. He said their files were also processed during the meeting held in the Administrative Department thereafter submitted to Finance Department for regularization but after the lapse of more than one year nothing has been done due to which the poor workers are suffering very badly.
He appealed the Government to regularize need based workers under SRO-64 in one go and implement Minimum Wages Act before doing fresh recruitment otherwise the workers will left with no option other than going for strong and massive agitation for which whole responsibility shall be of UT Government.
Among other those present during protest, Arun Singh, Vinod Lalotra, Surinder Kumar, Sethi Ram, Arjun Singh, Balbinder Singh etc.
