JAMMU, July 5: Aarav Arora of Punjab emerged as the champion in the FIDE-rated Chess tournament, held at LA-VEERAZ Chess Hall, Khara Madana, in a strong field of 157 players.

Medansh Goyal of Punjab secured the second position, while Udit Dubey of Uttar Pradesh finished third in the competition. In the age-category results, Aavya Gupta won gold in the U-7 category, Aashvi Sharma clinched gold in U-9, Alankrita Sharma topped the U-11 category, Paras Sharma secured gold in U-13 and Rithvik Gandotra won gold in the U-15 category.

Around 10 players achieved FIDE ratings through their performance in the tournament, marking a significant milestone for emerging chess talent.

The event was organised under the banner of the All J&K Chess Association and the All India Chess Federation (AICF). Prizes were distributed by Meenal Gupta, President of the All J&K Chess Association.

FA Bindu Pathania served as chief arbiter, while Ritish Pathania was deputy chief arbiter. The officiating team also included arbiters Arvindu, Nirmal Sharma, Stuti Gupta, Mansha Mahajan and Bhawna Sharma.
