Punjabi writers’ conference held

JAMMU, Feb 11: J&K Punjabi Sahitya Sangam Jammu today held its annual Punjabi writers conference at K L Saigal Hall.
Dr Arsh Sebhai presided over the function while eminent poet Dr Nirmal Vinod was the guest of honour. Prof Hardev Singh Khajuria graced the occasion as special guest while renowned Punjabi poet Sumer Singh Mastana was the guest of honour.
On the occasion, Sur Pal and Party, Mohan Singh Nirala, Kumari Vidhi Jaiswal and Rajpal Singh Mastana mesmerized the gathering with their performance while Hardeep Singh Deep read out his short story titled `Fakhar’. Dr Harbhajan Singh presented his paper titled `Pragti Atte Riyasat Jammu Kashmir Di Punjabi Kahani.’
It was followed by a grand Punjabi Mushaira. On the occasion, a resolution was also passed seeking increased time for the slot given to Punjabi programmes on DD and Radio Kashmir Jammu, introduction of Punjabi subject at Primary level in schools, opening Punjabi Department in Kashmir University and equal treatment to Punjabi writers, and organization for financial assistance by the Government.
Earlier, Rajpaul Singh Mastana, president of the J&K Sahitya Sabha, read out annual report of the Sahitya Sangam. He also highlighted the problems being faced by the Punjabi writers.
