JAMMU, Feb 17: To commemorate `Ritu-Raj Basant’ J&K Sahit Sangam organized a literary and cultural programe at K L Saigal Hall, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, here today.
Khalid Hussain, a veteran short story writer, presided over the function and S Didar Singh, a renowned writer and retired Director, Doordarshan, Jalandhar was the guest of honour on this occasion.
Rajpal Singh Mastana, president of the Sangam, emphasized that Doordarshan and Radio should provide more time slots to Punjabi and other local languages.
Key note was presented by Jang S Verman. He highlighted the activities and achievements of the Sangam.
A book ‘Tureya chal’ written by Karam Chand Shekhon, was released during this function. This is the first Punjabi poetry book written by Shekhon.
Hazoori Raagi Shri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Manjinder Singh and Saathi enthralled the audiences by presenting Raga Basant also known as Ritu Raj.
A musical event of songs was presented by S Surinder Bakar Puri and S Mohan Singh Nirala under the direction of Ashok Sharma.
In his address Khalid Hussain appreciated the efforts made by the Sangam in the promotion of Punjabi language. He also appreciated the book written by Karam Chand Shekhon.
During second session of the programme, Kavi Darbar was organized in which K K Shar, Balbinder Singh, Samsher Singh Chouvalvi, S S Rehbar, Janak Singh Kirti, Prof. Darshan Kaur, Amar Singh Kooka, Rahit Hussain, Devender Vishav Nagrik, Kamal Kashmiri, Ajeeit Singh Mastaana, Sumer Singh Karam Chand Shekhon, Mastaana, Joginder Singh Mastaana, Piara Singh Dhanjal, Swami Antar Neerav, Chaand Deepika, Tara Chand Kalandari, Lokesh Kumar and Chanchal Dogra presented their poems.
