BANIHAL, Apr 11: National Conference District president, Sajjad Shaheen has appealed to the Prime Minister to keep in mind the plight of thousands of stranded students, labourers and small traders of the J&K who have stranded in different parts of the country prior to take a call on lockdown extension as a measure to fight COVID-19 pandemic.
He appealed that the Government should provide a window for return of these stranded persons so that they could join their families. As the lockdown to contain the COVID-19 spread continues across the country, thousands of J&K residents especially those dealing with handicrafts, labourers and students are stranded in different parts of the country and have been living in very harsh conditions since March 24.
Shaheen said that over two to three thousand labourers, traders and students hailing from different areas of Banihal constituency have got stuck up in different states while some labourers of the same constituency are also stuck in Jammu and other districts of J&K. They should be immediately brought back to their homes in view of the alarming spread of COVID-19.
He further appealed the Government to arrange special trains and buses to facilitate the return of stranded students and labourers of the J&K.
