MENDHAR, Aug 19: Irate people from Mankote tehsil in Mendhar Sub-division today held protest against the CAPD and Revenue officials alleging bunglings in ration meant for flood/ rain affected people of September 2014, and blocked Mendhar-Poonch road for over three hours.
The villagers from Mankote and adjoining areas put lock on the ration depot at Mankote and started protest. The villagers alleged that Patwari and local Revenue staff provided a list of 112 families allegedly affected due to rains and floods during 2014. The then Government had announced six months free ration to these families.
No ration was provided to the families in last 11 months and now when they started providing ration to these families, the local ration dealer is giving just 20 kg free ration and taking sings from people for 34 kg ration. Moreover, the lists which were prepared by local Patwari are not genuine. They stopped the movement of vehicles and sat on dharna on the road to lodge their protest.
Later, Tehsildar Mankote Shahzad Khan reached the spot and talked to the agitating people. He announced to hold inquiry into the matter and assured the people that Naib Tehsildar, Girdawar and a Sarpanch of the area will hold inquiry and give report within two days. Till then depot will remain sealed. The people then lifted dharna and allowed movement of vehicles.
