Protest against bovine smuggling, road blocked

RAJOURI, Dec 18: The people from Saranu area of Kalakote today held protest demonstration and blocked Kalakote-Rajouri road for about two hours after they found a cattle lying dead on the road side.
The villagers at Saranu noticed a young calf lying dead on the road side in the morning. More villagers started gathering there. They suspected that bovine smugglers must have thrown down the cattle from the vehicle during night after finding it dead.
Irate villagers raised barricades on the road and suspended the movement of traffic at round 9.20 am. They started protest demonstration against the Police authorities and State Government. Some organizations from Rajouri also joined them. A large number of vehicles came to halt on this road. The police also reached there after some time. But the people refused to lift dharna from the road.
Later, DSP, DAR Rajouri along with some force reached there. He tried to pacify the agitating people and assured them that they will hold an inquiry into the matter related to death of cattle and shall identify the accused. On the assurance of the police officer, the people lifted dharna. The dead body of the cattle was also disposed off after examination by the Veterinary team.
