JAMMU, Sept 24: Prominent social worker and SSP (Rtd) Bhupinder Singh along with his team today took stock of the losses suffered by the residents of Darriyan, Jassore, Kadyal Gujjar Basti, Khepar, Jaad and adjoining areas of RS Pura.
While interacting with the locals, Mr Singh said river and nallahs have breached embankments in several parts of this area during the recent heavy rains and caused massive damage to the agriculture fields in the low-lying areas.
“We continue to closely coordinate with many agencies to plan for immediate and long-term needs of those affected by heavy rainfall and floods,” said former SSP, adding “our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have suffered losses due to floods”.
Speaking on the occasion, Nimrandeep Singh, MD Public Relations Commission said, “there is lot of resentment among flood affected people,”, adding “many people feel like they’ve been left out on the road so we’ve got to be there to support them and help them in this situation”.
Former SSP urged the Government to provide free of cost fodder for the cattle of the farmers/milk producers of the floods affected areas. He said that flood has caused soil erosion on thousands of acres of land and damaged crops for which the farmers should be compensated immediately.
“Government has to protect the interests of farmers and growers as they are the backbone of the economy”, he said.
