NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee today presented the Padma awards to 39 eminent personalities, including senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, cricketer Virat Kohli, Rio Paraolympics medallist Deepa Malik and playback singer Anuradha Paundwal.

The President conferred the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards at a Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan where Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Home Minister Rajnath Singh were also present.

While four personalities, including one posthumous, received the Padma Vibhushan awards, two personalities received the Padma Bhushan and 33 persons received the Padma Shri.

Those who received the Padma Vibhushan included Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Mr Sharad Pawar, Prof Udipi Ramachandra Rao and former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma (posthumously).

Among those who were conferred the Padma Bhushan were Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn and Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia.

The 33 personalities who received the Padma Shri includes Prof Anant Aggarwal, Kumari Nivedita Raghunath Bhide,Mrs Basant Bisht,Mr Michael Danino,Mrs Baoa Devi, Prof M M Godbole, sportpersons Virat Kohli and Deepa Malik, Mr Mukund Nayak, Mr Bvishnu Pandya, playback singer Anuradha Paundwal, Mr P R Srijesh, Prof Harkishan Singh, Mr Punam Suri,  Mr Purushoittam Upadhyay and Dr T K Viushwanathan. Two persons –Dr Suhaschandra Vithal Mapuskar and Dr (Mrs) Suniti Solomon- – received the award posthumously. (AGENCIES)
