Srinagar, Dec 22: Candidates who are set to appear for the Prosecuting Officer’s (PO) Mains Examination being conducted by J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) today sought the deferment of the exam in view of harsh winter conditions and because of less time provided to them for the preparation.
The preliminary examination for the PO Mains was held in August and the results were declared subsequently. However, after that, the Commission didn’t state anything regarding the conduct of Mains examination
“We waited for a month and after finding no notification of mains and with that the approach of winters we thought that the Commission would hold exams after winters,” said Farzana Riyaz, one of the aspirants.
It is to be noted here that for the first time the Prosecuting Officers posts were put in gazette cadre and the conduct of examination was handed over to J&K PSC, however, due to the timing of the exam, candidates said, they won’t be able to prepare for the same.
The aspirants said that the result for the preliminary JKAS was declared in November which was soon followed by the notification for mains examination tentatively to be held from 14th of February. “It did not, however, happen in our case,” the aspirants said.
As per the aggrieved aspirants, JKPSC adhered to norms for JKAS by providing beforehand notice and giving almost three months of time gap for preparations of the mains.
“It, however, did a different thing with us by publishing a notification/date sheet for mains in a hush-hush manner on 29/11/2021 which provided for the commencement of mains exams from 29th of December 2021, thereby giving merely 28 days gap for preparation of mains examination,” another aspirant said.
The aspirants said that the commission has scheduled the examination to be held from the middle of the harsh winter period which they said is discrimination against the aspirants of the Valley.
“The aspirants would be a force to write their future in minus temperature which robs them of the level playing field as compared to their Jammu counterparts,” the aspirants said.
Further, they said, the heating arrangements in the examination halls would not serve them any purpose coupled with several other issues which people face in Kashmir during the winter season.
The officials from the JKPSC could not be reached for their comments on the issue.
