JAMMU, Mar 3: Reacting sharply to the remarks of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed giving credit to Pakistan, separatists and the militants for the holding of peaceful Assembly elections in J&K State, newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ghulam Ahmed Mir today said that political uncertainty will be continued in the new PDP-BJP regime and it is unlikely to carry on for long.
Mr Mir, who arrived here from New Delhi after being appointed as new PCC chief told the media-persons at the sidelines of the grand felicitation function at party headquarters that both BJP and PDP have ideological differences. “They are like north pole and south pole. After long, they have come together for framing a Government. It is basically a marriage of convenience, which will not last for long. The political uncertainty will continue to haunt the people of the State who will ultimately be the great sufferers,” Mr Mir maintained.
Responding to the remarks of Mufti Mohd Sayeed, the new PCC chief said, “It is unfortunate that a seasoned politician gives such a statement. By giving credit to Pakistan, Hurriyat and the gun- wielding men for the conduct of smooth and peaceful elections in State, Mufti Sayeed has dishonoured and discredited the people of Kashmir including youth who came out in large number this time to participate in the democratic process and elect the candidates of their choice. Credit must go to the people and their faith in the democracy besides the forces combating militancy,” the PCC president said.
Launching scathing attack on BJP and PDP, the PCC chief alleged that both for the sake of power have joined hands. They have different ideology and under such circumstances they will not be able to deliver good to the people of the State. They have joined hands for their vested interests and not for the sake of service to the people and meet their aspirations. “The beginning has been made with the remarks of Mufti Sayeed and BJP has been pushed to the back foot. It is embarrassing situation for the BJP which is now facing public wrath,” Mr Mir added.
In response to another question Mir said, “It is a big responsibility given to him by the party high command at this critical juncture when the party has not done fairly well in the recently held Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. There is need to strengthen party at grass root level with the support from the rank and file of the party. We will collectively move ahead for infusing new blood in the party cadre,” Mir said.
When asked about any move with regard to re-organisation of the State, district and Block committees of the party, Mir said, “I think there is no need to be in hurry. For some time the party will move with the same arrangement and decision in this regard can be taken after discussing the issue with the party high command,” Mr maintained.
Addressing party workers and other functionaries at the PCC headquarters Mr Mir thanked the party functionaries and other activists for his warm welcome and said that it was their gesture, love and affection that they came out in large number to receive him. He said the Congress has to play an important role in the State and all the party men have to realize their responsibilities in the situation keeping in view the historical role played by the party in the State. The role of all the Congress men is imperative in strengthening party in all the three regions of the State. It is also known to all that the party is committed for honouring the aspirations of the people of all the three regions.
Meanwhile, after welcoming G M Mir as new PCC chief, the outgoing PCC president Prof Saifuddin Soz said, “I wish Mr Mir all success as president of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and I hope that Mr Mir will succeed with the cooperation of the party cadre. I also express gratitude to AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi for their support with which I had tried to discharge my duties as best as was possible by me. I also express gratitude to the party cadre from all the three regions for according me tremendous support to promote cause of the Congress Party in the State,” Soz maintained.
