JAMMU, May 19: Police worked out the murder case of a driver with the arrest of main accused.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jammu Atul Goel while addressing a press conference here told that on April 14, Narinder Singh, son of Jagbir Singh of Gandhi Nagar, by profession driver was found murdered near Dogra Hall area, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Pacca Danga.
Police immediately cordoned the area and after scrutinizing the scene shifted the deceased to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting autopsy, the body was handed over to family members for last rites, SSP added.
Mr Goel said that some injury marks were present on the neck of the deceased and accordingly a case under FIR number 79/14 under Section 302 RPC was registered at police station Pacca Danga and investigation started.
SSP added that during the course of investigation police scrutinized the CCTV footage of the deceased and another unknown person at a Bar between 2230 hours and 2300 hours.
After strenuous efforts, police tracked down the unknown accomplice of the deceased, who has been identified as Suresh Kumar alias Munna, son of late Des Raj of Dhok Paloura.
During interrogation, he (Munna) admitted to have committed the murder of the deceased using an abandoned clutch-wire used in 2-wheelers, SSP said, adding that the accused revealed that he strangulated the deceased after they had an altercation over a trivial issue.
SSP added that the clutch-wire used to commit the murder as well as the cell phone of the deceased has also been recovered at the instance of the accused, SSP maintained.
Mr Goel added that further investigations in the case are on and efforts are afoot to pin down any further motives/ accomplices (if any) in the commission of the crime.
The murder case was solved by incharge police post Parade Sumit Sharma under the supervision of DySP Kulbir Handa and SP City Yougal Manhas.
It is to mention that, the family members of the deceased had held protests and blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway demanding arrest of the accused.
