Police foils SBM employees’ march to Raj Bhawan

SRINAGAR, Aug 16: All J&K Saakshar Bharat Mission (AJKSBM) Employees Forum today protested against the alleged delay in issuing of orders on regularization of their services and threatened to go on hunger strike en-masse if their demands are not met.
The protestors attempted to take a protest rally from Sher- e- Kashmir Park here towards the Raj Bhawan but were disallowed to move beyond the park gates. Several protestors were also taken into preventive custody.
Under the banner of All J&K Saakshar Bharat Mission (AJKSBM) Employees Forum scores of employees working under the centrally sponsored scheme assembled at Sher- e- Kashmir Park and held strong demonstration against alleged failure of Government to regularize their services.
“After nearly six years of hard work and perseverance Government initiated a process to frame a job policy for us. But there has been no headways in the process as the file is lying with the Education Department for a long time”, Ishfaq Ahmad Shah, President All Jammu and Kashmir SBM Employees Forum, adding that around 6000 SBM employees were appointed under this scheme at different levels and have been performing their duties with dedication. He added that the many employees who were working in different capacities right from its inception in 2009 had crossed the maximum age limits without being regularized.
The protestors threatened to go on hunger strike if their demands were not fulfilled. “If our demands are not fulfilled up to 28th August 2018 we will observe a one day strike on 29th August,” the protestors said.
Meanwhile, the protestors said that the  Governor N N Vohra should take the matter seriously, ” we want the governor to take this matter seriously and secure future of 6000 highly qualified employees,” protesters said.
