SRINAGAR, Dec 22: Security forces today charged batons and fired teargas shells to disperse protesters who had blocked the highway at Palhalan in district Baramulla today against the arrest of a youth.
The trouble began when a police party arrested a youth, Parviaz Ahmad Gojri, allegedly involved in stone pelting in the area. However, people, mostly youths and women, took to the streets to protest against his arrest.
Security forces charged batons and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters, who were regrouping again and continued pelting stones on security forces.
Additional security forces and police personnel were rushed to the area to prevent demonstrators from blocking the Srinagar-Baramulla road.
