Police booked Altaf Ahmad Wani alias Altaf Kaloo, an MLA from Pahalgam, and NC spokesperson Umesh Bhat alias Talashi following the complaint by constable Shabir Ahmad on escort duty of the legislator.
The cop in his complaint alleged that he was beaten up by Kaloo and Talashi while performing his official duties last evening.
An FIR (No 334 dated 01-10-2026) has been registered under Sections 121 (Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station Sadder in district Anantnag.
According to the complaint, the cop was allegedly beaten up by the MLA and the spokesperson following an altercation.
The PSO alleged he sustained injuries in the assault, following which he lodged a complaint.
In the meantime, Kaloo, refuted the allegations made against him and termed them baseless.
He said the cop was allegedly absent from duty when he questioned him about his absence, he (cop) pushed him.
The legislator said that the cop was absent from duty for the last three days. He said that he had raised the issue of his absence with the SSP security Kashmir which irked him.
Kaloo requested the IGP Kashmir, SSP Anantnag and SHO concerned to look into the matter and conduct a fair inquiry.
He also urged the police authorities to verify and clarify the facts before issuing any official statement regarding the incident.
