JAMMU, Feb 24: Pressing for their permanent settlement and a package for the same, the PoK refugees have announced to take out a protest towards Civil Secretariat on February 26.
Decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the PoK DPs’ Front Jammu and Kashmir 1947, 1965, 1971 and Non-Camp 1971, held here today.
The meet strongly criticized the Chief Minister for not signing the proposed package for refugees and forwarding the same to Central Government so that the long outstanding demands of the displaced people can be resolved before Parliament elections.
The meet highlighted the demands, which included enlistment of left out DP families numbering approximately 9600 families of 1947 and about 1600 families of 1971,
ownership Rights for DP’s of 1947, 1965 and 1971 (Non Camp), ALC certificate to all DP’s, reservation to DPs’ children in professional colleges on the pattern of Kashmiri migrants, backward status to all DP, monthly stipend to landless DPs, formation of Development Board, etc.
The meet also demanded that 24 seats of Assembly, reserved for the area under Pak occupation, be given to DPs of PoK.
Stating that all these demands are already in the notice of State Government, the meet lamented that the proposed package was being delayed.
