JAMMU, Aug 5: Expressing deep concern over the present alarming situation prevailing in the Valley, the Public Opinion Forum (POF) today called for collective efforts by different political parties to defuse unrest.
“In fact, the situation has developed because of the large scale funding through hawala transactions from countries fomenting communal sentiments. The Forum is deeply concerned about direct intervention of Pakistan based terror groups, Pakistan Government and its agencies in the internal matters of India, especially situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” said president of the Forum, Parveen Sharma while talking to media here today.
In the light of the present situation Public Opinion Forum suggested certain steps to bring back normalcy in Kashmir.
POF said the security grid should be strengthened, bunkers, wherever required, be established and men in uniform be given free hand to tackle the security aspects of such an abnormal situation.
The separatist leaders inciting trouble should be strictly dealt with under the law and their security cover must be withdrawn.
Government employees, including those of autonomous bodies involved in seditious activities and spreading jehad be booked under the relevant laws and must start interaction with the civil society and intelligentsia and seek its help in controlling the situation.
While saying no to negotiations with the separatists and pro-Pakistan elements, the Forum appealed to all the political parties to put united efforts to control the present situation.
Those present on the occasion were Nathu Ram Gupta, VD Dogra, (both vice presidents), Dr Gopal Parthasarthi Sharma (general secretary), Dr Satya Dev Gupta, Col J P Singh and Prof Vijay Sharma (all senior members of the Forum).
