UDHAMPUR, Oct 4: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association held a massive protest demonstration in PHE Complex here under the chairmanship of Som Nath, district president and senior vice president of the Association for Jammu province.
The employees and workers drawn from Chenani, Ghordi, Ramnagar, Dudu, Latti, Majalta, Johnu Barta, Tikri, Jib, Thathi, Panchari, Katra and other areas participated in the protest and raised slogans in support of their demands.
While addressing the gathering Som Nath strongly condemned the attitude of the Government for not releasing the wages of workers for the past 20 to 22 months. He appealed the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and get resolved the issue of pending wages of the workers. He said Government should not under-estimate the strong force of 70000 employees and workers of the PHE Department when the Assembly elections were round the corner.
Association general secretary Vijay Kumar while speaking on the occasion warned to launch “No wages- No work” agitation in case their wages were not released at an earliest.
A charter of demands was submitted to both the Executive Engineers of PHE Civil and Mechanical, listing their demands, which pertained to release of all the wages held up by the Department; Appointment of workers to man the water supply schemes smoothly; Change or designation of workers as per the nature of job being performed by them; Enhancement of daily wage rate from Rs 150 to Rs 350; Putting an end for the suffering of employees and workers in drawl of G P Fund, and framing of a clear cut promotion policy and guidelines for daily rated workers.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Vijay Sharma, Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Baldev Raj, district Reasi president, Makhan Chand, Jagdish Magotra, Krishan Chand, Chuni Lal, Subash Chander, Rajinder Kumar, Kuldeep Kumar, Shiv Lal, Ved Parkash, Rakesh Kumar, Janait Ali etc.
