PHE employees highlight demands

JAMMU, June 2: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association held protest demonstration with empty earthen wares during its monthly executive meeting in which employees drawn from Ramnagar, Majalta, Dudu Basantgarh, Reasi, Katra, Chenani, Tikri, Kud, Patnitop, Jib Thati, Krimchi and other areas participated under the chairmanship of Som Nath, senior vice president of the association for Jammu province.
While addressing the gathering Som Nath urged the authorities at the helm of affairs to concede the genuine demands of the employees and workers at an earliest. He also appealed all the organizations of PHE Department to come on a joint platform for a united struggle to get the long pending genuine demands conceded by the Government.
He said it was sordid state of affairs that the workers have not been paid their dues for the past 24 to 28 months. Moreso the workers who were engaged in lieu of land donated for water supply schemes have not been paid even for once.
Other demands highlighted pertained to implementation of Minimum Wages Act with enhanced wage rate of Rs 400 per day; Regularisation of daily wagers with five years of more service; Release of 6% DA installment from January this year; Engagement of  required number of staff to run the water schemes smoothly; Benefit of higher qualification to educated staff and Change of designation as per nature of jobs being performed by them.
Others who also spoke included Vijay Sharma (general secretary), Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Subash Chander, Raj Kumar, Janait Ali, Baldev Singh, Raj Kumar, Kuldeep Kumar etc.
