PHDCCI takes up issues with Member Technical JKSERC

JAMMU, June 18: A delegation of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) led by its Chairman Vikrant Kuthiala met Ajay Gupta, Member Technical Jammu and Kashmir State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JKSERC) here.
Kuthiala suggested JKSERC to inform the consumers at large regarding the overall role of JKSERC including the consumers right to ask for clarifications, file review petitions in case of disputes with Power Development Department, educating the public at large about the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders i.e PDD, consumers and JKSERC under the Electricity Act.
He also suggested to initiate steps for strengthening of distribution system in terms of upgradation of conductors, creation of additional distribution substations, enhancement in capacity of HT substations of 220 KV, 132KV, 33KV and 11KV Level. He also suggested that suitable studies be carried out for identification of reasons for demand surge. He suggested that Merit Order Curtailment be implemented wherein feeders with highest line losses are put to maximum curtailment and those feeders, where line losses are minimal do not face any curtailment.
Kuthiala also took up the issue of Industrial Tariff-Applicability of hotels /hospitality sector. He mentioned that in the Budget of 2017, the State Government was pleased to extend the application of industrial power tariff to establishments in the hospitality sector, accordingly bills were raised by PDD till 31st March, 2019 as per industrial power tariff. Subsequently, PDD has reverted back to charging commercial tariff from these Establishments. He requested JKSERC to facilitate and notify tariff through the means of a corrigendum towards applicability of industrial tariff to this sector at the earliest without waiting for Annual ARR and tariff order.
PHDCCI Jammu region strongly advocated that three Regional Advisory Committees be constituted for the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh province by JKSERC, which can then project the concerns of the stakeholders as well as assist JKSERC to evaluate the ARR’s of JKPDD and JKSPDC.
Gupta gave a patient hearing and assured to look into all the issues raised by PHDCCI.
