SAMBA, Dec 20: People staged a strong protest demonstration against the CEO Surinsar- Mansar Development Authority (SMDA) and demanding immediate withdrawal of toll barrier at Mansar.
Hundreds of people of Mansar today came out on the streets and staged strong protest against what they alleged the dictatorial attitude of CEO, Surinsar -Mansar Development Authority (SMDA). The dozens of sarpanches and other business men, who came from various Panchayats of Majalata block, closed their shops completely and took out a huge rally in Mansar. They raised slogans against the CEO SMDA.
Police force was deployed to ensure law and order in the area.
Tehsildar Majalata Shakib Salim also reached Mansar to persuade the protestors to disperse. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur gave assurance to the people that administration will look into the issue and if Toll Post is against the law, it will be removed.
No shops opened in Mansar in the morning and all the people gathered at one place with placards in their hands. They came down on Udhampur road and took out a rally throughout the market and raised slogans. BDC chairman of Majalta Block Dinanath, Sunita Devi, Shaukat Ali, Rajesh Kumari (all sarpanches) said that Surinsar Mansar Development Authority is bent on eliminating Mansar completely and by calling out a tender to cut the slips on Samba-Mansar road and Surinsar road he is trying to install a barrier, which will not be tolerated, nor will it be allowed to be installed. If their demands was not fulfilled they will be forced to come on road and block Samba Mansar Dhar road.
