MENDHAR, May 19: The people today held protest demonstration against local police and disrupted movement of traffic on Mendhar -Jammu road for several hours.
They were demanding arrest of the TSO allegedly involved in the pilferage of CAPD ration. The people alleged that police detained only two employees including Salesman Fazal Hussain and Storekeeper Abdul Kabir while TSO Abdul Khaliq has not been arrested or detained for questioning. They also alleged that police was harassing only two employees and also beat them up yesterday. They were also hospitalized.
The people raised slogans against the police and demanded that all the accused involved in the ration smuggling be arrested and action should be taken against them. The protesting people raised barricades at main chowk and sat on dharna. The movement of vehicles remained disrupted up to 2 pm.
Later, Tehsildar Abdul Kabir and Naib Tehsildar reached the spot and talked to the agitating people. Then Tehsildar talked to Addl DC Poonch on phone who assured an inquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that the accused CAPD employees involved in the CAPD ration theft were not cooperating with the investigating team. He said that no one was beaten up by SDPO or any other cop. They had been summoned to the police station for inquiry today but they got themselves admitted in hospitals by enacting drama and instigated the people and their supporters, who resorted to road blockade and create lawlessness. He said that police is going by the evidence and all the employees/ people including TSO against whom sufficient evidence is found will be arrested. He said that more than 200 bags of public ration was sold in the black by the CAPD officials in connivance with the ration dealers and now they were trying to build up pressure on police to save their skin but the law will take its own course. Fazal was held along with seized ration from the spot.
