RAJOURI, Jan 8: The people from Thannamandi town and adjoining areas where massive damage was caused due to recent floods and rains, held demonstration against the District Administration at Thannamandi town today.
The people from all the wards of the town besides Manyal Gali alleged that lanes, roads and retaining walls at many places were damaged due to recent during rains and land slides but Municipal Committee authorities and Administration has failed to get them repaired and provide adequate relief to the people whose houses were extensively damaged. They blocked road for long and held protest.
Later, SDM Thannamandi Ashwani Kumar, Tehsildar Dr Abdul Kabir and SHO reached the spot. They pacified the public and assured that they will take up the matter with the DC Rajouri for release of special funds. One Mohd Akbar from Manyal Gali alleged that his house was totally damaged and he was given cheque worth Rs 3800 only. Another villager Mohd Ayub alleged that for the damage of his entire house, he was given cheque of Rs 2300. They demanded inquiry into the matter and asked where has the huge relief money gone, if it is not being provided to the victims. The SDM assured them an inquiry into the matter.
