People in snow bound Valley facing many problems: Mehbooba

SRINAGAR, Jan 3: PDP president and leader of Opposition in State Assembly, Mehbboba Mufti today expressed grave concern over the problems being faced by the people in snow bound Kashmir valley where many areas are still inaccessible due to non clearance of snow from roads.
Ms Mufti who visited many areas of district Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam was informed by the people enroute about their problems faced by them on account of power failure, water and ration scarcity.
Ms Mufti after touring these areas and listening to the problems of the people said that movement of people is not only very difficult but has become very dangerous also.
She said insufficient ration supply is a grave issue as people are unable to feed their families. Little quantity of sugar and Kerosene oil is being given to people, she added.
She said the power supply which was already bad has worsened after the snow fall. The people complained of being charged huge power bills despite non existent power supply. The transformers are not being picked up for repairs with the result many areas have plunged into darkness, she added.
Mehbooba said snow clearance has not been done in many areas properly with the result the roads are in a bad condition and have become dangerous for movement vehicular traffic and people on foot also face very difficulty to walk over them.
She said that HT and LT liens have been snapped due to snow fall thus causing a threat to the lives of people. She urged the PDD to take immediate steps in restoring the power supply.
Mehbooba who also visited Anantnag township said that snow clearance in the town has not been done fully as many important places like Bus Stand as well as roads and links were not properly cleared as yet. She urged the district administration to take further measures so that the people get some relief in this situation.
