Srinagar, July 7: Throwing the warning to the wind, scores of people were today seen catching fish in the Gantamulla Canal in Baramulla.
The officials had issued directions asking the general public not to venture near the site during the work as the water level could be fluctuating.
Eyewitnesses said that that people were seen fishing, not adhering to the warning, and putting their lives at risk. They also said that there was nobody present from the administration that could have stopped the movement of the public towards the spot.
“Despite requests by NHPC officials not to venture towards the canal as the water level will be fluctuating and can be dangerous and life-threatening; scores of people were seen catching fish amid power shut down in LJHP Gantamulla canal; no on from the administration was there,” a local said.
NHPC officials had earlier stated that the LJHP Power House is going to take one-day canal shut down for cleaning of accumulated heavy trash at Trash Guards of Forebay on 07-07-2020 from 8 am to 8 pm.
“The general public is requested not to venture towards the canal as the water level will be fluctuating and can be dangerous and life-threatening,” the warning had stated.
