KATHUA, Aug 24: The irate residents of Ward Number 13 and 14 held a strong protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway this morning against the failure of the Government to construct a proper drainage system in the area due to which entire drainage water of industry and National Highway entered into their houses during heavy rainfall early this morning.
The protestors including men women and children raising slogans against the Government and authorities squatted on the Highway and disturbed the movement of vehicular traffic.
They alleged that this being an old problem has not been settled over the years with the result the people have been suffering. They said that entire house hold goods perished after the rain water entered the houses in the two wards and the residents of Lane Number 2 and 3 were the most affected.
They said that there is no outlet of rain and drain water in the area as the entire effluents of industrial area flow from these localities. They said they have taken up the issue with the concerned authorities a number of times in past but to no avail.
As the situation aggravated this time we have been left with no alternative but to come to streets and also block the National Highway.
Later Additional DC , Kathua Bharat Bushan, CEO Municipal Council Kathua, Sanjeev Gandotra and Tehsildar Kathua , Avtar Singh Jasrotia reached the spot and pacified the protestors. He assured them that their problem will be solved.
