Patriotism in school children

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘DSEJ to organise various programmes to inculcate spirit of patriotism in students’ (DE, July15, 2018).It is heartening to read that the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sainik Welfare and J&K Cultural Academy will organise various programmes in Jammu Division to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in school children, besides sensitising them about sacrifices of uniform forces towards the motherland. There is no doubt that our Army personnel serve our nation in difficult and  hostile conditions and don’t mind sacrificing their lives for the sovereignity and integrity of our country. When they are martyred while performing their supreme duty of  defending their motherland, they leave their families behind them in shock and agony. Therefore, their families need the moral support of all the citizens of our country to make them believe that the grateful nation has not forgotten the supreme  sacrifice of the brave sons of Mother India. This initiative of the DSEJ to organise series of patriotic group song and essay writing competitions in as many as 12000 schools in Jammu Division will go a long way in developing patriotic spirit in our students in their young age and appreciate the role of Armed Forces for defending our borders. The fact that students from these schools will be motivated to visit the families of the martyrs to convince them that they are not alone and the whole nation stands by them will definitely develop humane qualities in them.It will also develop in them the patriotic feelings and motivate them to join the proud ranks of our Armed Forces to serve their motherland.
