Patient care not allowed to suffer in GMC: Principal

JAMMU, Apr 26: Govern-ment Medical College (GMC) Principal, Dr Sunanda Raina said today that despite fire incident in the drug store of Government Medical College, Jammu, the patient care hasn’t been allowed to suffer for want of essential drugs.
Most of the drugs, which was short, have been made available to the patients in the Casualty as well as Wards in the Hospital, she said, adding that most of the routine tests were now being conducted in the Bio Chemistry, Microbiology and Pathology Departments after making purchases from the market within the competent of Medical Superintendent as the test kits are not being supplied by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL).
“Adequate steps are being taken to take care of sanitation in the hospital areas making availability of adequate manpower round the clock, ensuring availability of essential drugs both through JKMSCL as well as local purchase whatever is not being supplied by the Corporation,’’ the GMC Principal said.
Dr Raina said she herself as well as all other senior functionaries of the Government Medical College were regularly conducting surprise checks of Casualty, Wards and OPDs to ensure that the patient care is not affected and whatever facilities were available within the resources are provided to the patients.
In this connection, the Principal also sought the help of patients and their attendants to maintain cleanliness and discipline in the area.
