UDHAMPUR, Oct 11: Family members of an Udhampur woman, who had died yesterday at the house of her-in laws at Kathua, held a strong protest here today and blocked the National Highway.
Alleging that the woman was murdered by her in-laws, they were demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
After putting body of the deceased on road, the protesting family members and relatives blocked the traffic on ever busy Jammu Srinagar National Highway and raised slogans against Kathua Police for its inaction.
The protest dharna was lifted only after Police officers assured that necessary action would be taken against the culprits.
The deceased woman was married at Ghagwari, Kathua, with one Sunil Kumar, around three years back.
Parents of the deceased alleged that their daughter was harassed and physically tortured to force her for bringing more dowry but every time after the intervention of some respectable persons, they sent her back to the house of in-laws with the hope that all the things would settle with time.
However, on Saturday evening, the parents received information that their daughter was lying unconscious at her in-laws’ house. Subsequently, they along with other family members rushed to the spot and found her dead with injury marks on her body.
Alleging that it was a clear case of murder, the parent lodged a complaint against Sunil and his family members but Kathua police failed to initiate any action against the accused.
