JAMMU, Sept 30: Panic gripped Smailpur and surrounded areas under the jurisdiction of Bari Barahamana police station in Samba district today after local people spotted mysterious looking `explosive like objects’, which later turned out to be illumination cells used by security forces to lit up the area during parachute training.
Police and CRPF personnel cordoned off village Dassal and surrounding areas of Smailpur in Bari Barahamana after civilians said they have spotted `explosive like material’ in the field.
During searches, police and security forces detected that the devices were illumination cells, which had broken after being used by the security personnel to lit up the areas during parachute training.
Police have seized the devices.
Police today also conducted searches in Raika forests adjacent Bagh-e-Bahu to sanitise the area.
