JAMMU, Mar 26: Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today directed the Government to constitute a Committee under the Chief Secretary to recommend reforms and further improvement and promotion of Urdu, Dogri and Kashmiri languages and also examining on the demand of setting up of Urdu Academy in Jammu and Srinagar.
The issue was raised during Question Hour by the NC Member Devender Singh Rana on the non-availability of Urdu teachers in schools and injustice being done to the official language of the State. He pointed out that if the SSRB recruits only general line teachers, then there seems to be no definite policy to provide language teachers like Urdu and Dogri in the Schools. He demanded that reply of the minister was not convincing and due to this policy many students have been deprived of the Urdu knowing teachers.
Such is the condition now that SHO engages Urdu knowing `Munshi’ for official work and even Patwaris and Naib Tehsildars are engaging Urdu knowing people at their own to run the work.
