Pakistan yet again violated the ceasefire by firing heavily on forward Border Outposts of Border Security Force along international border in Kathua Sector.
“Pakistan Rangers this evening fired small arms and targeted at least seven Border Outposts in Hiranagar Sector of Kathua district,” official sources here said.
They said the Pakistan Rangers started firing at around 1630 hrs and the firing lasted till 2000 hrs, adding, “BSF also retaliated effectively to the cross border firing.” Meanwhile, no injury of loss of life was reported in the exchange of fire.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said situation along the international border in Hiranagar sector remained tense and number of migrants in 14 relief camps increased to 4841.
“Rescue operation continued, bullet proof vehicles and buses were deputed by district administration for evacuation,” he added.
After early morning shelling in some areas, the firing was again reported from Pahadpur, Manyari, Pansar and Bobiyan areas of Hiranagar sectors, he added.
He said the District Administration and Red Cross distributed 1250 blankets; ration items, cooked food, first aid camps, drinking water and firewood have also been provided in relief camps.
“Number of migrants was expected to rise in wake of repeated shelling and accordingly more relief camps have been kept in preparedness. Two teams of veterinarians and 6 teams of revenue officials have been deputed to forward areas for treatment of injured livestock and make assessment of losses inflicted during border firing,” said the DC.
Educational institutions will continue to remain closed for an indefinite period till final settlement of ceasefire violation issue and alternative arrangements are also being made accordingly, he added.
Earlier in the afternoon, Pakistan resorted to heavy unprovoked firing in Samba Sector also. DG BSF D K Pathak today also reviewed the situation along the border.
A BSF jawan was killed yesterday in cross border firing while around 10,000 border dwellers have been shifted to the safer locations in both the sectors. (AGENCIES)
