SRINAGAR: Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and targeted forward posts at the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said here.
They said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing, targeting forward Army posts at LoC in Machil sector in Kupwara on Tuesday night. Indian troops also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time. However, no one was injured on this side of the LoC, they said, adding damage suffered by Pakistani side was not immediately known.
They said Pakistani troops are firing from across the LoC to provide cover to militants to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall.
However, they said, troops guarding the LoC are already on high alert to foil any attempt by militants, waiting at launchpads in LoC to sneak into this side.
There are about 200 militants waiting across the border to infiltrate into this side as there was less snowfall so far. (AGENCIES)
